About

Aromatherapy massage combines the flowing strokes of the classic Swedish technique with the scent of essential oils. The fragrance is as much a part of the session as the rhythm of the massage: the blend you choose stays with you throughout and deepens the sense of relaxation.

Which oils are used?

We choose the blend together when you book or in the short consultation before your session. Our blends include:

  • Bergamot: fresh, uplifting citrus notes
  • Lavender: a soft, calm scent well suited to the evening
  • Neroli: a balanced, soothing scent from orange blossom
  • Rose: a rich, warm floral blend

What happens during the session?

  1. Choosing the oil: The blend is chosen to suit your favourite scent and how you feel that day.
  2. Warm-up: The oil is warmed in a porcelain bowl; starting at the back and shoulders, long strokes warm the body.
  3. Full body: The back, shoulders, neck, arms and legs are worked with gentle pressure.
  4. Closing: The pace slows and the session ends with long, calming strokes, followed by herbal tea.

Sessions last 50 or 70 minutes; the pressure is gentle and can be adjusted to your preference.

Who is it for?

It suits anyone who wants to rest the mind as well as the body after a busy week, those who want to unwind in the evening, travellers after a long journey and first-time massage guests. If you are sensitive to scents, Classic Swedish Massage may suit you better.

When to be careful

  • Pregnancy (some essential oils are not recommended; consult your doctor)
  • Allergy or sensitivity to essential oils, fragrances or plant-based products
  • Respiratory sensitivities, such as asthma, that scents can trigger
  • Eczema, open wounds or irritation in the treatment area
  • Epilepsy, a serious chronic condition or regular medication

Aromatherapy or another massage?

  • Classic Swedish Massage: the same technique, for when you would rather scent did not take centre stage.
  • Thai Aroma Massage: adds the passive stretches of the Thai tradition to aromatherapy oils.
  • Harmony Massage: a 70-minute signature ritual that opens with an aromatherapy oil and ends with a head and foot massage.

After your session

  • Wait a few hours before showering so the oil can stay on your skin.
  • After citrus oils such as bergamot, avoid sunbathing and sunbeds on the same day.
  • Drink plenty of water and try to keep the rest of your day calm.

Frequently Asked

About Aromatherapy Massage

What are the benefits of Aromatherapy Massage?

Aromatherapy massage adds the scent of essential oils to the muscle-relaxing strokes of a classic massage, aiming for a sense of relaxation in both body and mind. Guests choose it to unwind during a stressful period, to wind down in the evening or to shake off travel fatigue. The effect varies from person to person, and it is not a substitute for medical treatment.

What is the difference between aromatherapy massage and classic massage?

The technique is the same: long, flowing strokes with gentle pressure. The difference is the oil. Classic Swedish massage uses an aromatic massage oil, while in aromatherapy massage you choose an essential oil blend and the scent takes centre stage.

Can I have an aromatherapy massage while pregnant?

Some essential oils are not recommended during pregnancy. If you are pregnant, consult your doctor and let us know before your appointment so we can find a suitable option together.

Can I shower after an aromatherapy massage?

We recommend waiting a few hours before showering so the oil can absorb into your skin. If citrus oils such as bergamot were used, avoid direct sun and sunbeds on the same day.

How long does an Aromatherapy Massage session take?

An Aromatherapy Massage session takes 50 or 70 minutes. You can choose the duration that suits you when booking.

Who is Aromatherapy Massage suitable for?

Aromatherapy Massage is suitable for demanding professionals, those wanting to unwind in the evening, guests recovering from travel and first-time massage clients. Please let us know before your appointment if you are pregnant, have had recent surgery or have a chronic condition.

Which areas does Aromatherapy Massage focus on?

The treatment focuses on back, shoulders, neck, arms and legs. You can agree your priority areas with your therapist at the start of the session.

What is included in an Aromatherapy Massage session?

The session includes aromatic oils, warm towels and herbal tea ceremony.
