Lomi Lomi Nui is the traditional massage of Hawaii; its name means "to knead, to rub" in the local language. Your therapist works the whole body with hands and forearms in long, rhythmic, unbroken strokes that flow into one another like ocean waves. Given with plenty of massage oil, the session leaves a feeling of deep relaxation.
How the session unfolds
- Short consultation: You are asked about your preferred pressure and any areas that need attention.
- Warm-up: Broad strokes with warm oil prepare the body for the massage.
- Wave strokes: The forearms travel along the back, legs and arms in long strokes; the flow is never broken as one area leads into the next.
- Closing: The strokes slow down and come to an end, and you rest for a few minutes.
